Deepti Sharma Appointed UP Warriorz Captain For WPL 2025
UP Warriorz has appointed Deepti Sharma as captain for the 2025 WPL season, replacing Alyssa Healy.

Women’s Premier League (WPL) franchise UP Warriorz has appointed star India all-rounder Deepti Sharma as the captain for the 2025 season of the premier T20 competition. Former India batter Suresh Raina unveiled Deepti — both hail from the state — as the skipper in a live TV show on Sunday.
Deepti will replace Australia captain Alyssa Healy, who led the team for the past two seasons. Healy has opted out of the upcoming season due to a stress injury to her right foot. Deepti will become the first captain to lead the team out at their home stadium – the BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, which will host some matches in the tournament for the first time this year.

“I am delighted and honored to be named captain of the UP Warriorz, which is a team from my home state," Deepti said in a statement. “The UP Warriorz has a fantastic squad, and we are confident that we will entertain our fans with the Warriorz brand of cricket, at the WPL this season as well. We can’t wait to play in Lucknow in front of our home fans, and hope to inspire the next generation of women athletes."
Jinisha Sharma, Director, Capri Sports and Team Owner, added, “Deepti is one of the most versatile and impactful players in Indian cricket, and we are thrilled to have her lead UP Warriorz this season. Her sharp cricketing mind, all-round abilities, and calm leadership under pressure make her the ideal captain to guide this team. As a world-class match-winner and a fierce competitor, Deepti has time and again proven her ability to turn the game around. With her at the helm, we are confident that UP Warriorz will play fearless, dynamic cricket and make our fans proud."
Although Deepti’s captaincy skills would be put to their sternest test in the high-profile competition this season, her personal game is at arguably its best level. She won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in WPL 2024 and has been coming off good performances in international as well as league cricket.
She has played 17 games for the Warriorz, scoring 385 runs and picking 19 wickets over the course of 17 games. The Warriorz will kick off their WPL season against the Gujarat Giants on February 16.
