A side effect of bringing a giant robot to a well-attended conference is that people notice. After the WIRED Mech debuted, it went wide. People loved it. Now that Comic-Con's over, it does interviews on morning news shows. Let's hope all this attention doesn't go to the mech's (rather large) head.
The goal of the WIRED Mech–besides bringing the biggest cosplay to Comic-Con–was to show visual effects don't have to be pixels. Sometimes the physical can be more unbelievable than the digital. The art of the real certainly still has a place, especially where giant robots are concerned.
In this final edition of the making of the mech, check out the proud parents at Legacy Effects and the Stan Winston School as they watch their 9.5-foot baby leave the nest. Make sure to check out all the other videos in the series if you want to see a giant robot go from drawing board to drawing crowds.
Maybe next year, we'll bring out the mech's even bigger brother.
